Coalition Airstrikes in Yemen Did Not Target Civilian Sites

RIYADH: A recent investigation by the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) has concluded that several airstrikes by the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen did not target civilian sites, as previously alleged.

In a meeting held Wednesday, the JIAT reviewed claims surrounding airstrikes over the past years, including one reported on Jan. 13, 2022, where the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that a hospital in Al-Sawad was damaged.

However, the JIAT found that the hospital, on the coalition’s no-strike list, was not targeted. Instead, precision-guided airstrikes hit military targets within the nearby Al-Sawad camp, based on intelligence about Houthi militia activity.

Similarly, a March 3, 2021, claim that a farm in Al-Watadah was targeted was also dismissed.

The JIAT found no coordinates for the alleged location, no records of airstrikes in the area, and no supporting evidence from open-source investigations.

In another case from Feb. 23, 2020, regarding a missile allegedly falling near a house in Al-Malaheet village, no coalition activity was recorded.

Additionally, no air missions were found in Abyan on June 4, 2015, despite reports of an airstrike on the governorate building in Zinjibar.

The JIAT emphasized that these findings are part of its commitment to investigating allegations transparently and ensuring accountability.
